RSV is a respiratory illness that spreads in a similar way to colds, flu and COVID. It spreads through coughs, sneezes and contact with contaminated surface and infected persons. For the majority of people the symptoms will be mild but for babies and the elderly it can become a serious illness. To help reduce the spread and limit the symptoms of RSV we recommend an RSV vaccine for anyone that is eligible to receive it.
If you’re not sure if you qualify for the vaccine or you’d like to know more, speak to our pharmacy team who will be happy to advise you. We are currently offering the RSV vaccine for £235 to our patients in Sutton, Surrey.

If you’re wondering who in your family might be eligible for the RSV vaccine, it’s recommended for pregnant women from 28 weeks onwards and adults aged 75 to 79. Other health conditions or factors might also make someone eligible.
If you’re not sure whether you or a loved one qualify, our friendly pharmacy team is here to help just ask!
The RSV vaccine is administered as a simple injection into the upper arm. For pregnant women, it can be safely given alongside other pregnancy vaccines, such as those for whooping cough or flu. However, it’s best to have these vaccines as soon as they’re offered, rather than waiting to have them together.
For older adults, the RSV vaccine is generally given separately from flu or COVID-19 vaccines but may be combined with other vaccines like shingles or pneumococcal, depending on advice from a healthcare professional.
Most side effects are mild, such as a bit of swelling or soreness at the injection site, a headache, or general aches. The mild side effects are very similar to the ones you may experience from the yearly flu jab.
These symptoms usually settle on their own, but if you’d like to learn more or have specific concerns, our knowledgeable pharmacy team will be happy to help.
For older adults, a single dose of the RSV vaccine offers protection that lasts for several years. Pregnant women, however, will need the vaccine during each pregnancy to ensure their baby is protected during the first six months of life.
